Michael Riotto

Industry insider and technology expert, Michael Riotto is a lighting designer and director who has worked in various industries ranging from theatre and entertainment to architecture and hospitality for the last two decades. Riotto honed his craft and expertise while learning on the job as a technical and production designer for the circus. Working behind the scenes, he developed specialized lighting systems and problem-solved for varied clients as Cirque Eloize, Les 7 doigts de la main, and Cirque du Soleil. In an effort to merge the theatrical and technical elements of circus with that of architecture and interior design, he opened MRD Lighting in 2005. Since then, MRD Lighting has solidified its reputation as a lighting solutions provider within the design industry as well as the “go-to” source for product development and innovation, lighting even the most challenging environments—cruise ships, restaurants, exteriors, national historic landmarks and interiors needing specialized care. Riotto and his team at MRD have been recognized with Awards that include THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement (One World Observatory, New York City (Architect: The Hettema Group), Live Design Excellence Award (Oasis of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International), and Archi-Tech Lighting Innovations Award for Infinity Teen Disco.

Michael Lagrotteria

Michael Lagrotteria, a Connecticut native, returns to the East coast after spending the last decade in Los Angeles where he designed lighting for architecture and themed environments for several renowned firms including Walt Disney Imagineering. His wide range of designs have taken him from Krustyland in Springfield USA to the world’s largest animatronic figures in Singapore to Mickey Avenue in Shanghai Disney with many stops in between. Michael holds a MFA in lighting design from Carnegie Mellon University.

Preston Church

Prior to becoming a lighting designer, Preston worked in fabrication and custom design. His education in architecture, fabrication experience, and interest in art elevate his perspective on light as a medium. Signe Iversen

Born and raised in Denmark, Signe Iversen began her studies in science, graduating from Aarhus University with a B.Sc. in Cognitive Science. During her undergraduate years, she studied abroad at Columbia University in New York and Edith Cowan University in Australia. Her passion for merging science and art, alongside her appreciation for light, led her to pursue anMFA in Interior and Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design in New York. As a junior lighting designer, Signe blends her profound cultural appreciation for Nordic light with a global perspective, aiming to explore the intricate intersection of science and art. Her personal experiences and academic background fuel her passion for integrating cognitive science and lighting design to create impactful and innovative design solutions.

Cristina Rodriguez

Cristina’s upbringing and diverse business background goes back to Guayaquil, Ecuador. She has a Bachelor in Business Administration from Universidad Laica Vicente Rocafuerte, Auditing from Universidad Catolica Santiago de Guayaquil and accounting courses at Mary Mount Manhattan College. Her multifaceted experience in different industries and commodities has been her major assets and had shown remarkable business acumen through her career.

Daniel Artuso

Danny Artuso is a Technical Project Coordinator for MRD. He has previously worked as a Lighting Technician / Performer on a theatrical national tour, a De-Escalation Specialist, and a Production Runner for America’s Got Talent. He is highly skilled with experience in overall project management and has a keen eye for detail. Danny holds multiple Off-Broadway credits, is a member of the AEA, and has a B.A. in Theatre from Hofstra University.

Kenneth Nordholm

Nora Fay

Having joined MRD in 2017, Nora is responsible for business development/client relations for the company. Nora has more than 30 years of experience in lighting sales, management, design, construction and sustainability. Previously in her career she was Vice President of Corporate Accounts for Cooper Industries and Philips Lighting where she was instrumental in securing multimillion dollar national accounts. While at Philips she passed the rigorous LC (lighting certified) exam. She was also a principal of LEHR Construction, a major NYC construction firm and closed over $200 million in new business. While at LEHR she became a LEED Accredited Professional and started the LEED Consulting Division of LEHR. She went on to teach LEED to over 500 industry professionals and was instrumental in helping them pass the various LEED exams. Nora has a broad knowledge of lighting and the built environment along with an extensive network of industry professionals.

James Gaskill

James has been working with MRD since 2007 as a project manager and primarily works with MRD cruise ship clients during this time. Hailing originally from the Atlanta, Georgia, area, James has been living in Denver, Colorado, for the past 12 years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia in 2005. When not working on the land or at sea, James enjoys camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities in the high country of Colorado.

Alyssa Jean

Alyssa assists with Technical Project Coordination and Logistics Support for Field Project Managers and Technicians. She is a native of Boston, Massachusetts and has seven years of experience in sales, business development, and account management. Taitum Lystad

Tait assists with the logistics and execution of projects in the field. Tait is a native of Colorado, growing up an avid skier in Telluride, CO. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Environmental Science in 2018, then spent 5 years working as a chef in NYC and Colorado. The time management, and organizational skills learned in this environment have translated well into various industries.

Alex Diaz

Alex coordinates all shipping and receiving, as well as, is responsible for and organizes our warehouse. He resides in Woodhaven, Queens and has 3 years of experience in various warehouse roles. Sham Ninah

Sham serves as the Team Resources Manager which includes Human Resources as well as Office and Facilities Management. He is originally from Astoria (Queens) and has over 20 years of experience in government, education and management. He graduated from New York University with a BS in Education and taught high school Science and Math. His interests include playing basketball and softball, coaching his daughter's softball team and mentoring young men through his church. He currently lives in Mount Vernon, NY and cherishes family time with his wife Rebekah and three daughters, Rachel, Julia and Hannah.

Damian VanCamp

Damian is a born-and-raised New Yorker who comes to MRD having worked on numerous award winning lighting design projects across a myriad of sectors. A self-described "ideas guy," Damian believes that design is a form of interactive storytelling that fosters an on-going conversation between light, space, and experience. He believes that "light should be allowed to breathe," and that the most successful projects have a strong conceptual foundation that is maintained throughout the life of a project. He holds a BFA in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in architectural lighting design from Parsons. He is a classically-trained drummer who can't dance (go figure), and has a formidable sweet-tooth.

Horner Williams

Horner is a Management Accountant who has worked with small businesses for over 30 years. He is currently the Controller. He worked as an internal auditor, accounting software trainer and loan signing agent. Gabriela Walker

Gabriela joined the BUILD team as the Technical Project Coordinator, while she still assists this role, her primary focus is the end of the jobs and providing internal support to our labor teams. She moved to the NE from Texas living in the area for 20yrs, but has recently returned to warmer climate to be with family. As a native Spanish-speaker, Gabriela has experience in travel coordination, team development, sales, and expertise in executive administration with the ability to empathize with a wide range of needs. Her background of customer service management and office administration generated a foundation that is others oriented and detailed focus, and always seeking to implement improvements in any environment.

Dave Romano

Dave has been specializing in engineering and project management for 6+ years for our company. From performing work within our Customs, Design, and Technical divisions, to engaging in biological experiments for Ultra-Violet lighting, Dave has many years experience on every facet within MRD. He attended the University of Miami for 5 years, studying electrical engineering prior to coming onboard with us. David Atkinson

David Atkinson has been working with MRD since 2009, and in his many years of service has contributed to many aspects of the company. In his current role as Director of Special Projects he tackles many unique challenges, from specifying complex lighting control systems to creating custom germicidal UV solutions. Previously he lived in Columbus Ohio, where he graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA in Theater, Magna Cum Laude. He is also an avid runner, photographer, and lover of the arts, so you just might run into him roaming the galleries at one of the many museums in NYC, or out for a jog around Central Park.
